Kirkin o' the Tartan
Sunday 14 Oct 2012 2:00 PM
The little white church on the hill (an old
Covenanter church
now only open by appointment) will again the be site for
the annual Kirkin' o the Tartan.
After the Battle of Culloden in 1745, all forms of Scottish nationalism,
including the tartan, were banned. During that time, churchs would have a service
where people would have a small piece of their tartan under their clothes near
their heart. During the prayer for "family" they would touch the tartan.
Years later, when the ban was repealed, it became a nationalistic, kilted church service.
All are welcome. Kilts are welcome but not required.
Directions: Take National Ave. to W234 S7110 Big Bend Drive, Big Bend, WI 53103.
0r--Hwy 43 West, get off on Hwy 164 and turn right (north) to National, turn right (east).
0n your left is MacDonalds. The church is across the road.

Burns Monument
Memorial Bricks
The statue of Robert Burns at Milwaukee's
Burns Commons (Knapp and Prospect) requires
continual maintenance and repair.
In order to raise money for this purpose,
the St Andrew's Society of Milwaukee has
partnered with the Milwaukee County Parks
Department to install an apron of bricks
around the base of the statue.
More information is available from the
St
Andrew's Society website.
